When Pearson Fuels announces a new E85 location, drivers may wonder what that designation means.

A Pearson Fuels location is an independently operated gas station that partners with Pearson Fuels to offer E85. Pearson Fuels helps bring E85 to the location and supports its availability. This is simultaneous with the station owner continues managing the retail business.

It Begins With the Right Location

A new E85 project may begin when a station owner contacts Pearson Fuels or when Pearson Fuels identifies a location that could help expand the existing network.

Not every station is the right fit. Potential locations are evaluated based on factors such as local demand, expected fuel volume and whether the station would fill a gap in E85 availability.

If the location is a good candidate, Pearson Fuels and the station owner begin planning what will be required to add E85.

The Station Must Be Equipped for E85

Before a station can sell E85, it must have compatible equipment and meet California requirements for fuel storage and dispensing.

Depending on the station’s existing infrastructure, the project may involve converting a storage tank, updating piping or installing compatible dispensing equipment. Permitting, construction and system checks must also be completed before the station can begin offering E85.

Bringing a new E85 station online generally takes several months. The timeline depends on the location, equipment needs and permitting process.

Pearson Fuels Begins Supplying E85

Once the necessary work is complete, Pearson Fuels coordinates the station’s E85 supply and deliveries.

The location is added to the Pearson Fuels network, making it easier for drivers to find through the Pearson Fuels App. Pearson Fuels may also support the station launch and help nearby flex fuel drivers learn about the new location with marketing. 

The Station Remains Independently Operated

Becoming a Pearson Fuels location does not mean the station is owned or operated by Pearson Fuels.

The station owner continues managing the retail location and determines the price displayed at the pump. Pearson Fuels supplies the E85 and supports its availability, but the independent station owner controls the retail operation.

Why Each New Location Matters

More than 650 stations offer E85 across California, including more than 500 supplied by Pearson Fuels. Each new location gives flex fuel drivers another place to fill up and helps close gaps in the statewide network.

For drivers, that can mean finding E85 closer to home, work or a regular travel route. For station owners, it creates an opportunity to offer another fuel option to California’s drivers and diversify their offerings. 

A Pearson Fuels location is ultimately a partnership: the station owner operates the retail location, while Pearson Fuels helps make E85 available.
